I have siblings who live far away from home, we don’t get to celebrate some special occasions like birthdays and other festivals together. Sometimes, we have a family reunion that brings everyone back home. In this reunion, we get to spend little time together and celebrate every day that passes with dessert, games, great meals and talks, that lead to so much laughter and giggling for the days they’re going to spend.
However, the reunions help us create family rituals that keep my family bond stronger and growing; here we have to celebrate those occasions we missed together, rub minds, and be happy together.
In other words, ritual is a set of behavior that is repeatable and symbolically meaningful.
Family rituals are the way of transmitting family values, history, and culture from one generation to the next.
Family rituals make the family members feel good and create a sense of identity, security, and belonging. Simple rituals like stories before bedtime, song for children and even playing music while bathing, are rituals that hold special meaning for children and families.
Some examples of these family rituals include religious festivals (Christmas, Easter, Ramadan, Baptism, and so on), cultural festivals (New yam, Diwali, Halloween, etc), as well as Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Weddings and Funerals.
Through the use of these rituals, we can help ourselves find extra time with our family that we may be missing.
Why is family ritual so important?

Note that, there is this joy you get when you spend some quality time with your family, eat from the same place with your siblings and celebrate their special day. Every day spent with your family is a ritual, and they count in the family life which can never be overemphasized.
